Role overview

As a HR Advisor, you will report directly to the HR Manager and take on full generalist responsibilities for our trading and support functions based at our Beighton Sheffield Head Office. You will also action ad-hoc case work for our warehouse employees, with the expectation of traveling to the Manvers Rotherham site when needed. In this role, you'll ensure smooth people processes, drive people initiatives, and provide essential support to people managers, employees, and the wider HR team.

Key responsibilities

  • Recruitment: Work alongside the Recruitment and Engagement Advisor to manage the new starter process through to onboarding and induction.
  • People Manager Development: Build strong relationships with people managers to embed people-related initiatives through coaching and training delivery.
  • Employee Development: Support the coordination and delivery of learning plans for employees/leaders, collaborating with the Recruitment and Engagement Advisor to drive initiatives that support ongoing learning and career progression across the business.
  • Employee Relations: Support managers with investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, long /short term attendance management, and probationary reviews, through advice as well as notetaking and drafting correspondence.
  • Transactional HR activity: Working closely with the HR Assistant, you will oversee HR transactions and data for your area (starters, probations, contractual variations, flexible working requests, family leave and offboarding) from initial request through to payroll.
  • Employee Engagement and Retention: Through understanding our recent Great Places to Work accreditation data, as well as exit interview feedback, you will look for improvements in current practices and explore better ways of working.
  • HR Projects: Contribute to HR projects such as improving employee wellbeing and EDI, policy and process reviews, change management initiatives, and continuous advancement of the HRIS PeopleXD.

Essential Requirements

This is an ideal role for someone with previous people development experience in a target-driven environment who is looking for their first step from HR Administrator to HR Advisor, or a current HR Advisor who wants to broaden their skills. Through your up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation gained in a HR function, you will be proactive, passionate about driving change, and have the following attributes:

  • Leadership Development: A strong understanding of people management principles, either through direct experience or by effectively supporting and advising managers in areas such as performance, development, and employee relations.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to challenge behaviours and processes when needed, as well as being comfortable in your presentation delivery.
  • Adaptability: Flexible and willing to provide support where needed.
  • Attention to Detail: High accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Time Management: Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Self-Starter: Confident and capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of a HRIS, PeopleXD would be desirable, and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong ability to build relationships with stakeholders.

CIPD Level 5 qualification is preferred or willingness to work towards. WFH is available on an ad-hoc basis and whilst our core office hours are Monday to Friday 9 am until 5 pm, we are happy to discuss alternatives.
