You are so much more than the grades you received at school, college or university.
Although these are important, they are not always what we, as the employer, are looking for.
We really want to know about you. Your personality, interests and skills should take up a large part of your CV giving a real insight into you as a person.
Your personality is unique, people may have the same grades as you, but no one has the same personal attributes that you have. Use this to your advantage!
During the interview process, a large part of what we’re looking for is whether you’re a ‘Pricecheck person’ and if you’ll fit in with the rest of the team effortlessly.
Rather than using classic phrases like ‘good communicator’ or ‘well organised’, use adjectives throughout your whole CV that add to the description of your personality. Be bold when expressing your personal qualities, give recruiters something original to read.
The professional profile and interests’ section in your CV are a great place to let your personality really come through. Are you a motivator, an independent thinker, a team player, or even the office clown? All these descriptions will allow us to learn a little bit more about you as a person, not just your grades.
Including interests and skills are a great way to show recruiters what you like to do outside of work. This will allow employers to see if you have any common interests with others in the team and will widen their thoughts of you by painting a more detailed picture.
That’s essentially what you are doing when writing a CV. You are painting a picture of yourself in word format. Don’t paint in black and white, add splashes of colour to showcase the real you.
Remember that employees read hundreds of CV’s, so you need to make yours stand out.
